Jabalpur, Feb 7 (UNI) The district consumers' forum has directed an international private-sector insurance company to pay the claim amount and compensation to a local doctor who was looted at Copenhagen.

Forum President H P Singh, members M M Vajpeyi and Shailja Awasthi heard a plea by Dr Dipankar Banerji and directed the company to shell out 1,500 pounds under its foreign trip insurance scheme policy, Rs 5,000 against harassment and Rs 1,000 for legal expenses within two months.

Petitioner's Counsel K Dutta submitted that his client availed the policy from the company's local branch in June 2005. Dr Banerji was looted of his passport, credit card, cellphone, return ticket and other belongings by two unidentified persons on June 20, 2005. A report was registered by Copenhagen Police.

The victim speedily faxed details to the company and his wife had a complaint registered at the company's Mumbai office. However, the company did not help Dr Banerji in Denmark.

After returning to India on June 22, 2005, the victim contacted the company again and informed them that Rs 42,000 had been withdrawn from his credit account.
