DMK warns Vijayakanth of legal action

Chennai, Feb 7 (UNI) The ruling DMK today warned of legal action against Actor-Politician and DMDK Leader Vijayakanth for his 'disinformation campaign' that the DMK had intimidated Election officials to reject the nominations of his party candidates seeking election for 100 wards of Chennai Corporation on February 18.

In a statement here, DMK General Secretary and Finance Minister K Anbazhagan dismissed as 'total lie' Mr Vijayakanth's charge that the DMK men intimidated the DMDK candidates to withdraw from the contest and the State Election Commission officials rejected their papers.

''It is a pity Mr Vijayakanth has selected candidates who are not even aware of the procedure for filing nomination papers and is trying to shift the blame on DMK,'' the Minister said.

The DMDK candidates were accompanied by some laywers while filing nominations and they themselves had pointed out discrepancies in the papers, Mr Anbazhagan claimed.

Unwilling to believe his own candidates, Mr Vijayakanth, 'after locking them up in a marriage hall,' was charging the DMK with intimidating them, he said.

If he was not willing to believe his own candidates, how the people would believe them and accept Mr Vijayakanth as their leader, the senior DMK leader asked.
