New Delhi, Feb 7: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Foundation has demanded declaration of the official residence of country's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister as a building of national importance.

In a letter to President A P J Abdul Kalam, foundation's Chairman- cum-President R A Shashtri sought to declare 1 Aurangzeb Road as a national monument.

The structure fulfilled all ''guidelines'' of Archaeological Survey of India, he argued in the letter, copies of which had also been sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni, besides the ASI Director General.

Iron Man Sardar Patel had presented the conceptual basis of modern India and due to his foresight as many as 565 regions were amalgamated into Indian territory.

He was hence also called the 'real architect of modern India'.
