Gorakhpur, Feb 7 (UNI) A local court today granted bail to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Yogi Adityanath, who was arrested in the aftermath of communal violence in this eastern Uttar Pradesh district.

District Court Judge Amar Singh asked the MP to furnish a surety of Rs 20000 while holding that no case under section 436 of the IPC could be made against him.

The court had yesterday declared the detention of the BJP MP illegal under section 151 of the IPC.

Fifty-five people, including MLA (City) Dr Radha Mohan Das Agarwal and former UP minister Shiv Pratap Shukla, have already been released as no cases were pending against them.

Hindu Yuva Vahini state unit president Sunil Singh and Vishwa Hindu Mahasangh general secretary Rakesh Singh Pahelwan were still lodged in jail.

The order came on a revision petition filed by one Devesh Vaish.

The BJP MP was arrested along with his supportes apprehending disturbance of peace in the riot-hit district.

Meanwhile, a report from Kanpur said 36 activists of the BJP Mahila Morcha led by its president Pramila Pandey clashed with police near Shikshak park while they were proceeding to the riot-torn Gorakhpur town to protest the arrest of the BJP MP.

Raising anti-government slogans, the demonstrators staged a 'dharna' at parade square after an activist Shanti Kashyap was wounded in the clash. Later, all of them were detained by the police.
