BJD Mahila leader in unconscious state after self immolation bid

Puri, Feb 7 (UNI) Ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Mahila leader Saraswati Nayak, who was detained by the police for attempted self-immolation in front of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, has been lying in an unconscious state in the Sadar Hospital here.

The woman activist, who was denied a party ticket to contest the Zilla Parishad member post this time, made a self-immolation bid at the Chief Minister's meeting at Ganeswarpur yesterday.

She was rushed to the GOP hospital after the Chief Minister's security foiled her attempt to set her body on fire after dousing kerosene in front of the Chief Minister.

The woman was discharged by doctors at the Gop Hospital and was taken to the Gop Police station where she spent the night.

This morning, police said she fell unconscious inside the police station after vomiting several times.

She was are admitted to the Gop hospital but later referred to the Puri Sadar hospital where she was still lying unconscious.

Doctors are yet to ascertain the cause of her self-immolation.

Her family members suspected that she might have consumed some poisonous herb inside the police station.
