Accident insurance scheme launched in Qatar

Dubai, Feb 7 (UNI) A new group personal accident insurance scheme floated by an Indian expatriate organisation has been formally launched in Qatar.

Indian Ambassador Dr George Joseph announced the scheme yesterday set up by the Indian Nationals Abroad (INA) in association with India's National Insurance Company.

It provides compensation for the insured in the event of injury resulting in permanent disability or death within 12 month of an accident.

With a nominal premium of Rs 60 for a worldwide insurance cover of Rs 100,000, the scheme is affordable to labourers in different sectors in the Gulf countries, an INA source said.

Two leading companies in the Gulf Nasser S Al Hajiri Corporation and Galfar Al Misnad handed over a letters of commitment to Dr Joseph that they would enroll more than 6,000 of its Indian employees in the scheme.

While Nasser group employs 18,000 Indians in Saudi Arabia, Galfar has 20,000 Indians in Oman itself.

Bank of India, which manages the money remittance house Al Mana Exchange, has voluntarily agreed to receive applications of the scheme at their office, its General Manager K R Nair said at the meeting.
