Kashmir: 720 Traffic violators booked in a single day
Srinagar, Feb 7: Concerned over the deaths in road accidents in the Kashmir valley, traffic police officials during a special drive booked 720 drivers for violating different traffic laws in a single day.
Superintendent of Police Abdul Hamid Bhat said the traffic department had intensified its drive against those who were violating the traffic laws.
He said during a special drive, traffic officials booked 720 traffic violators and imposed a fine of Rs 52000 on them.
The drive was specifically concentrated on Auto Rickshaws plying without fare meters and overloading in passenger vehicles, he said.
About 441 auto rickshaws were booked under the provision of the Motor Vehicle Act for plying without fare meters, while 65 passenger vehicles were challaned for overloading and roof topping.
Besides, 32 two wheelers were booked for playing without head gears, 27 vehicles for plying without wearing safety belts, 20 drivers for driving without valid driving licenses, 38 vehicles for wrong parking, 23 for dangerous driving/over speeding, 12 for without possessing Polution Under Control Certificate. 30 vehicles were also seized on spot.
He said vehicle operators had been asked to possess relevant documents and strictly adhere to the provisions of the law as enshrined in the Motor Vehicle Act and High Court directions to avoid stringent action against them.
