Thulabharam with currency notes

Thrissur, Feb 6 (UNI) 'Thulabharam' was performed with currency notes at the Lord Krishna temple in Guruvayoor for six-month-old Ayush from Tamil Nadu.

The 'thulabharam' with 100 rupee notes worth Rs nine lakh rupees, was performed yesterday by the boy's father Bhageeradhan, working as an engineer in the United States, in gratitude for having a child after a long wait.

This was the first 'thulabharam' in Guruvayoor temple with currency notes after 1987, temple sources said.

The custom involves placing the person on one side of a physical balance and filling the other side with offerings of the devotees' choice, like coconut or banana, till the scales are evenly poised.
