Russia opposes weapons deployment in outer space

Moscow, Feb 6 (UNI) Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov today said that weapons must not be deployed in the outer space as it will affect security worldwide.

''Russia remains categorically opposed to placing any type of weapons in outer space and waging an armed struggle in outer space, in general,'' he told reporters At the same time, it understands that outer space has certainly been used for the purposes of security by Russian Federation and others," Ivanov pointed out.

"But I would like everyone to see the difference: using outer space for the purposes of security and defence is one thing, but placing weapons there is totally a different thing," he said.

"We believe that the deployment of weapons in outer space, is absolutely unacceptable because it will make the situation in the sphere of global security altogether unpredictable," he averred.
