Leopard kills student in Kashmir
Srinagar, Feb 6 (UNI) A student was killed by a leopard in south Kashmir last evening, a police spokesman said today.
He said the leopard descended at Check Hassanabad, about 85 from here in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, and took away a student Tayub Ahmad Khan when he was near the forest area, searching his horse.
Police said the locals later found the body. The leopard later went back into forest, he added.
Leopards have killed five children in the South Kashmir in January this year.
There were about 60-70 incidents of man-animal conflicts in which wild animals have killed more than a dozen people in the Kashmir valley since November last year. Agitators have also killed two leopards during the same period in the valley.
In view of frequent leopard attacks and loss of lives, a massive and vigorous hunt has been launched by the wildlife department along with police to trap the animals.
