Inter-state bus services reamain suspended
Chennai, Feb 6 (UNI) The Inter-state bus services between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka remained suspended for the second successive day following protests in the aftermath of the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.
Official sources here said the decision to suspend the services was taken as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.
The services were suspended since yesterday morning.
The bus services from Salem and Erode were operated only upto Hosur, Dharmpauri, Krishnagiri and the areas bordering the two states.
Bus services from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu also remained suspended, leading to heavy rush in trains to and from Chennai, Bangalore and Mysore.
Movement of trucks between the two states also came to a standstill with several people lined up on either side of the border.
Fearing violence, several Tamil speaking people living in Bangalore, Mysore, Mandya and other parts of Karnataka have started moving to Hosur, Mettur and other border areas of Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, tight vigil was being maintained at key locations in Dharmapuri district, and areas bordering Karnataka.
Security was also tightened in the tourist spot of Hogenakkal and at Biligundalu, the entry point of Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu.
