Develop inland water transportation: Yechury
Visakhapatnam, Feb 6 (UNI) Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture Chairman Sitaram Yechury today discussed the feasibility of developing inland water transportation in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to mediapersons here, he said the Committee had visited Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT), Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) and National Highway Authority (NHA) and discussed with the state government officials, the modalities for developing inland water transportation in Godavari and Krishna river and steps to be taken to boost tourism.
Mr Yechury also held discussions with Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K Harinarayana and with top functionaries of HSL, VPT and NHA.
Meanwhile, the INTUC, CITU, BMS and AITUC Union General Secretary submitted a joint memorandum to the Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman and members of HSL.
The capital restructuring proposal of HSL was pending with the Centre since long time. The delay in clearing the capital restructuring was increasing the liability of HSL, and depriving the benefits of present booom in the ship building industry world-wide.
