Puducherry, Feb 6 (UNI) Puducherry Agriculture Minister V Vaithilingam today said the final award of the Cauvery water dispute tribunal would enable the farmers and the government here to make necessary plans for farm operations in future.

Welcoming the award, Mr Vaithilingam told newspersons that though Puducherry demanded 9.23 TMC ft of water, the present allocation of seven TMC ft is satisfying.

As far as Karaikal region of the Union Territory was concerned there is no large scale conversion of fertile land for non-farm activities. The land use Board, of which he himself is the Chairman, is also concerned about protecting the fertile land, he said Mr Vaithilingam who also holds the industries portfolio said the administration has evolved a new IT policy which was forwarded to the Cabinet for it's approval.

Later, speaking at a function at the Krishi Vigayan Kendra near here, Mr Vaithilingam said nine technology transfer clubs were to be started in Puducherry shortly which was sanctioned by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR). The NABARD would be assisting the management of the club, Mr Vaithilingam said, adding that self-help groups and the technology transfer clubs should function as crisis managers in rural areas.
