Sarpanch,Ward member candidate arrested,sent to jail custody

Puri, Feb 4 (UNI) A Sarapanch and one Ward member candidate of Alibada Gram Panchayat were arrested by the Brahmagiri police yesterday as they were wanted by the district sessions court in connection with a criminal case pending in the court.

They were presented before the sub divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM), who remanded both of them in jail custody.

According to the police, one Kumar Palei contesting for the post of Sarpanch and Ward member candidate Dhaneswar Maharana were involved in a criminal case in 1996.

The Police had chargesheeted several people, including the two candidates, for attempt to murder, possessing explosives and rioting.

Both Palei and Maharana were enlarged on bail but failed to appear in the court during the trial of the case.The Sessions court had issued warrants of their arrest police said.
