Pondy admn will come out with new IT policy: Shajahan

Puducherry, Feb 5 (UNI) The Puducherry administration will soon come out with a new IT policy in the Union Territory, Education and IT minister M O H F Shajahan said today.

Delivering a special address at the launching of the Chennaionline electronic tendering system here, Mr Shajahan said the administration would constitue a standing committee to work out the IT policy.

Stating that computer awareness was more in Puducherry, compared to other states, he said many entrepreneurs were keen on setting up IT industries here.

The electronic tendering system would be speedy and cost effective and a person from anywhere in India could take part in a tender in Puducherry, he said and assured that several departments of the government would utilise the facility while participating in tenders.

The administration proposes to set up E-Seva centers here with public-private participation through which train, bus tickets and even certificates could be obtained.

As there were many French speaking people, the administration was getting applications for setting up of BPOs (French) here, he added.

Launching the facility, the first-of-its kind in the country, Chief Minister N Rangasamy claimed that Puducherry was the number one among small states.

The administration would soon set up a special economic zone, he said adding that while the work for the development of the port project would commence soon, an IT park would be set up here for all-round development of the Union Territory.

Speaking on the occasion, Chennaionline Managing Director Ravichandran said the high security electronic tendering facility system would provide greater transparency to the entire tendering process, leading to efficiency and lower cost in the implementation and proliferation of e-governance activities.
