Jalandhar, Feb 5 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today sought to warn the people of intentions of communal forces and sought votes for his party in view of its secular and nationalistic policies.

Addressing an election rally at the PAP Grounds here this afternoon in favour of ruling Congress nominees for the Feburary 13 assembly elections, Dr Singh said that the people in the state had a clear option between communal forces and the Congress.

''On one hand, there were some forces which worked provoke and divide people with their religion and caste based politics while on the other side, there is the Congress which had always worked for the cause of all sections of the society,'' he asserted.

Dr Singh said that today everybody in the country was interested in fast development of the country and eradication of poverty, backwardness and unemployment and his party was the only party which could realise the people's needs and ambitions.

The Congress led government at the Centre was already on the task, he noted.

He said that after assuming power at the Centre about three years ago, his government, under the guidance of UPA Chairperson Ms Sonia Gandhi, had implemented a number of projects, which were paving way for the fast and all round development of the country.

The National Rural Employment Guarantee programme was one of such ambitious programmes which my government had launched in the country for providing 100 days assured employment to every unemployed person every year. In the first phase the programme was being implemented in selected district and in the next phase to begin in months to come the programme would be launched in all districts of the country,'' he said.
