Panchayat clerk murdered

Surat, Feb 5 (UNI) A senior clerk of the district panchayat office here was brutally murdered by some unidentified persons near Saroli on the Surat-Olpad Road here, police sources said.

Gulabhbhai Bhagwanbhai Chauhan (52), a senior clerk with the health department of Surat district Panchayat office, was killed with a sharp weapon last night.

His body was found by Fire brigade personnel with wounds on his head and neck near Saroli bridge this morning.

Sources said that Gulabhbhai, a resident of Palanpur Patiya near Adajan in the city, left yesterday for Olpad from here on his bike.

He was working with the district panchayat office for the last 30 years, sources added.

Police have launched a manhunt to trace the assailants.
