Padma Bhushan for Airtel's Sunil Bharti Mittal

Chennai, Feb 5 (UNI) The Chairman of the Bharti Group Sunil Bharti Mittal has been chosen for this year's Padma Bhushan Award.

Mr Mittal has been chosen for the Award for his contribution towards spearheading the development of a world-class telecom sector in the country, resulting in the economic development of the nation, an official release said here today.

Mr Mittal, who began his entrepreneurial journey in 1976, has become one of the most successful business leaders of post-liberalised India.

Over the years, he has been recognised at various national and international forums and recently received several prestigious awards which included the Asia Businessman of the Year 2006 by Fortune Magazine, CEO of the Year 2006 by Frost &Sullivan and Best Asian Telecom CEO 2005 by Telecom Asia, the release added.
