Nepal: One killed, 23 injured in Eastern Terai
Kathmandu, Feb 5: One person was killed and 23 others injured in a clash between the agitating activists of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) and the police in Sarlahi and Birjung today afternoon.
Police resorted to firing after the protesters staged demonstration defying the curfew. At least 12 protesters and six police personnel were injured in the clash, Kantipur radio said.
Police officials claimed that demonstrators opened fire at the police, injuring six people. The crowd also vandalized the statue of martyr Thir Bam Malla.
At least 15 people have died in violence during protests organised by Madhesi groups in eastern and southern Terai.
However a Reuters report said that two people were killed in the clash.
