No business transacted in K'taka Council for 4th day
Bangalore, Feb 5 (UNI) The Karnataka Legislative Council was adjourned without transacting any business for the fourth consecutive day today, with the Opposition Congress continuing to stall proceedings opposing the appointment of JD(S) member N Thipanna as the Officiating Chairman of the House.
As soon as the House assembled, Leader of the Opposition H K Patil reiterated that his party was not ready to recognise Mr Thipanna as the Chairman and appealed to him not to occupy the post.
The Congress members raised slogans that the appointment was ''illegal and unconstitutional''.
Mr Thipanna's pleas to the Opposition members to participate in discussions failed to bring order in the House, following which he adjourned the House for 30 minutes. However, when the Council re-assembled, pandemonium prevailed again and the House was adjourned till 1530 hrs.
When the Council re-assembled, Higher Education Minister and floor leader D H Shankaramurthy announced that the Government was ready to make a statement on the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and appealed to the Congress members to cooperate.
Amidst din, Mr Patil said the Congress members were ready to participate in the discussion on the sensitive issue, but refused to resume their seats.
After making a vain bid to restore order, Mr Thipanna adjourned the House to tomorrow.
