HM commander arrested, ammunition recovered in Kashmir
Srinagar, Feb 5 (UNI) A self-styled Battalion Commander (BC) of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was arrested and a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from a hideout in the Kashmir Valley overnight.
An official spokesman said police at Kupwara conducted a search operation following a tip-off that some top militants were holding a meeting there.
The area was immediately cordoned off, and after a long search police personnel arrested Fayaz Ahamd Hajam alias Khadim.
He said Khadim, a listed militant, has been active in the north Kashmir for the last seven years.
Khadim had crossed into Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) twice for receiving arms training.
A defence spokesman said troops unearthed a hideout and recovered arms and ammunition in the Kashmir Valley.
On specific information, Army seized a cache of war-like stores buried under a tree in the Kund Nar areas, he said.
He said the seizure included ten kg of deadly RDX, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher, 25 UBGL grenades and one Improvised Explosive Device, he said.
