Hearing on civic poll petitions begin

Chennai, Feb 5 (UNI) The hearing on a batch of petitions, seeking to declare as null and void the Chennai Corporation Elections and to order repoll in all 155 wards today commenced in Madras High Court.

Originally, a division bench comprising Mr Justice S J Mukopadhya and Mr Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifullah, heard the petitions and gave a split verdict. Hence, it was referred to a third judge.

Accordingly Mr Justice P K Misra was nominated as the third judge for hearing afresh.

Accordingly, the hearing commenced today. As the arguments of N Jyothi, Counsel for AIADMK MLA, D Jayakumar (one of the petitioners) was inconclusive, the matter was posted to tomorrow for further hearing.
