New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) In view of increasing contribution of the film industry to the economy of the country, the government would set up a separate export promotion council for films, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said here today.

Films were bringing revenue to the country but the government was not doing anything for them, so there is a thinking to create a separate body for export of films, Mr Dasmunsi said.

He was replying to questions after addressing Editors' Conference on Social Sector issues organised by the Press Information Bureau here this evening.

The Minister said he had already appointed five working groups to study the various problems faced by the film industry like taxation, piracy and others, the report was expected by the end of the month.

On February 12, he said, the Ministry was going to hold a consultative meeting with representative of the industry and experts in Mumbai.

After studying the report, the government would come out with a comprehensive policy to help the sector, he said.

In this context, the government had received some offers from Hollywood for collaboration in setting up film institutes, he added.
