Four arrested for running 'satta' racket

New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) Police today claimed to have busted a betting racket with the arrest of four people from Sarai Rohilla area of North Delhi.

Kingpin Parvinder Singh Chadda (37), Harjeet Singh (45), Jitender Singh alias Raju (39) and Avtar Singh (39) were arrested yesterday from Subhdara Colony in Sarai Rohilla -- which had been rented for the purpose -- following a raid, said the police.

Rupees 25,000 in cash, a laptop, six mobile phones, a Hocker Disc, a colour TV and a diary having details of the match with betting worth nearly 25 lakh, were seized from the 'spot'.

The 'satta' operation was underway during the ongoing one-day cricket match between New Zealand and Australia and had more that 300 'players' betting.

The accused would record bets of 'players', mostly on phones, and not only create textual records of bets but also the audio record of callers in the laptop equipped with a especially designed software.

The average stake money on each match was between Rs 20-25 lakh.

Accused Parvinder Singh Chadda alias Vipin Chaddha has been to jail thrice for the same crime, police added.
