Fire kills couple

Chennai, Feb 5 (UNI) A 40-year-old man and his wife were charred to death when a fire broke out in their house at Sivanthangal suburb here in the wee hours of today.

Police said, on hearing their cries, the neighbours rushed to save them but they were not able to go near the house, following which they informed the fire service.

Fire and rescue department personnel rushed to the spot and put out the fire and removed the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem.

The deceased were identified as Subburaman and his wife Bhavani.

Electrical short circuit was suspected to be the reason behind the mishap, police added.
