DMRC to augment its fleet, to add 10 trains to its network

New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) Following an increasing ridership levels on its three lines, the Delhi Metro Rail corporation is all set to augment its fleet through introduction of ten new trains on its network.

''We have placed orders for ten new trains to augment the capacity on all the three lines,''DMRC chief spokesperson Anuj Dayal told UNI here.

Mr Dayal said the new trains would be operational by the end of next months.

''From March onwards two new trains will be added on the DMRC network every month,''he said.

Of the ten new trains to be added to the DMRC network in Delhi, seven would be added to the 32.1 km Dwarka-Bharakhamba road line, which handles a major proportion of the passenger traffic on the DMRC network.

''One train will be added to the Central Secretariat-Vishwawidyalaya stretch while two will be added to the Shahdara-Rithala line,''the DMRC spokesperson said.

The trains are being manufactured by the Bharat Automobiles Limited in Bangalore, he said.

Ever since its operationalisation last year, the Barakhamba Road-Dwarka section has been witnessing a huge rush of commuters, with ridership levels increasing every month.
