Dimpa stays away from PM's rally

Amritsar, Feb 5 (UNI) Congress candidate from the sensitive Beas assembly constituency, Jasbir Singh Dimpa, was conspicuous by his absence from the election rally addressed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Ranjit Avenue here today.

While a number of candiates contesting the assembly polls in Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts were present at the rally, Dimpa, against whom an FIR was registered a few day back following the death of an Akali activists after a clash between Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) workers, was not seen at the rally venue.

Besides Dimpa, his two brothers have also been named in the FIR.

Senior Congress leaders, when questioned on Dimpa's absence said that he was busy in his election campaign and moreover, the presence of candiates at the rally was not mandatory. They pointed out that even Sukh Sarkaria, who is contesting from the Raja Sansi segment, was also absent from the PM's rally.
