Congress demands probe into Howrah fire
Kolkata, Feb 05 (UNI) West Bengal Pradesh Congress today demanded a high level probe into the devastating fire at an embroidery workshop in neighbouring Howrah in which seven people were killed and several injured.
In an open letter to state Labour minister Mrinal Banerjee, WBPCC Working President Pradip Bhattacharya after visiting the site also demanded adequate compensation to the next of kin of each of the deceased and to the injured and arrest of the factory owner on charge of 'utter negligence'.
Describing the incident as 'horrific', Mr Bhattacharya said the victims could not even run away from the spot as the only gate was locked from outside. He urged the state government to review the whole situation and ensure that there was no further violation of industrial laws anywhere in the state besiders taking suitable measures to prevent recurrence of any such accident in any industrial unit in future.
