Centre approves highways repair work in Tamil Nadu
New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) Union Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu has approved road repair works in Tamil Nadu at a total cost of Rs 655.15 lakh.
An amount of Rs 337.18 lakh has been sanctioned for construction of minor bridges on NH-208 (Kollam-Shenkottah-Thirumangalam section) at Manglapuram, Puliangudi, Vasudevanallur, Aathuvazhi, Kattalaikudi in Tirunelveli district of the state.
Mr Baalu has approved Rs 145.96 lakh for reconstruction of minor bridge (Sanganur Bridge) of NH-209 in Coimbatore. The existing bridge is narrow and in a dilapidated condition. The proposed bridge on the same location will have four lanes with footpath. An amount of Rs 97.51 lakh has been approved for the construction of slab culverts at Sempatti, Vathalagundu and Kattakamanpatti of NH-45 (Dindigul-Periyakulam-Theni Section) in Dindigul district.
Further, the Centre has sanctioned Rs 60.10 lakh for reconstruction of a minor bridge and a culvert in lieu of existing minor bridge of NH-45 A in Cuddalore town.
An amount of Rs 14.40 lakh has also been approved for construction of retaining wall on a certain stretch of NH-45A in Cuddalore district.
A ministry spokesman today said these are important National Highways in Tamil Nadu and needed to be maintained for smooth flow of traffic.
