Jalpaiguri, Feb 5 (UNI) At least three people were wounded critically when a powerful blast detonated by a suspected militant group at Kamakhaguri railway station, some 20 km from this town, this noon, police said.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) sources said the blast occurred at 1315 hours on platfrom No 2 from where Guwahati bound Kamrup Express left its onward journey just four minutes before the explosion.

Police said the bomb went off under a community chair and the blast damaged the shed and grievously injured the occupants.

The injured, all hawkers, were taken to a local hospital.

Senior civil and police officials had rushed to the spot and security forces cordonon off the scene of the crime.

Meanwhile, security forces launched a combing operation at nearby Kumargram, the bastion of Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), a militant group demanding separate Kamtapur land in North Bengal. Police detained some people for interrogation.

A bomb squad and sniffer dogs were pressed into service to detect clues of the crime.

Police recovered seven handbags from the site.

Suspected rebels two months back had bombed on Haldibari Express carrying coaches for Darjeeling Mail at Belacoba station in this district in which over dozen people were killed and many injured.
