Kolkata, Feb 5 (UNI) The BJP in West Bengal today announced a statewide agitational programme, including the formation of a Human Chain across the city here later this week, to protest the alleged growing police atrocities on farmers.

Announcing the state party's week long agitational programme, beginning tomorrow, BJP state General Secretary Rahul Sinha today informed that about 20,000 farmers from all over the state would assemble at Esplanade, in downtown Kolkata, tomorrow to take part in a symbolic sowing of paddy on a makershift field.

This would be followed by a ten km long human chain in the city on February ten at 1400 hours by members of the women wing of BJP and several other party organisations, Mr Sinha said adding in case of any attempt by the administration to break the chain it would be opposed vehemently but in a peaceful manner.

He said the week long protest would be culminated on February 14 when a massive peace march to Singur would be organised by the BJP workers violating prohibitory orders under section 144 Cr P C which was reimposed in the area since yesterday following violence.

Lambasting the state police force for allegedly resorting to unprovoked lathi charge and bursting of tear gas shells on peaceful protesters at Singur yesterday in which several people were injured, Mr Sinha asked the state government to immediately publish a white paper on the issue of aquisition of farm land.
