19 Muslim members in new 71-member AMC
Akola, Feb 5 (UNI) The newly-elected Muslim corporators in the 71-member Akola Municipal Corporation (AMC) have demanded the mayoral post which has been reserved for other backward classes (OBCs).
As many as 19 members of the community have been elected to the new House of whom 16 are new entrants. The outgoing House had thirteen Muslim corporators.
As many as six Muslim corporators have been elected on Congress ticket. The BRP-BMS has also two Muslim corporators and the party has also laid claim to the mayoral post.
The Congress, incidentally, has emerged as the single largest party with 19 seats. The Nationalist Congress Party follows with eleven seats.
