Ludhiana, Feb 4 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Modi today appealed to the people to change the Punjab government, as UPA regime at the Centre, led by the congress was responsible for price hike.

Addressing an election rally here, in favour of the BJP's ally Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) candidate, Mr Modi said that during NDA govermemnt, there was no shortage of foodgrains. Moreover wheat and other essential commodities were over stocked, whereas the UPA goverment within a short span exhausted the stock and is on the verge of importing foodgrains, he alleged.

Mr Modi said once Punjab used to supply foodgrain to other parts of the country but now its own farmers were not only fighting poverty but also committing suicide.

''If government wish to bring changes then only development can take place,'' he said, adding that in the last four years, massive development took place in Gujarat as compared to other states and now villages are getting 24-hour electricity supply everyday and more and more industrialist coming forward to set up their units in the state.
