2-pronged strategy to identify potential tax payers
Jammu, Feb 4: The Jammu and Kashmir government has adopted a two-pronged strategy for identifying potential tax payers in the state.
''Spreading awareness amongst the public about their legal responsibility to pay taxes and identification of willful defaulters is the two-pronged strategy being pursued by the Income-Tax department for identification of potential tax payers,'' Income Tax Commissioner Virendra Singh said yesterday.
He stressed on the need for widening of tax base by having frequent interaction with trade associations, educating the public through question-answer sessions via the media, seminars, and awareness camps.
Mr Singh, who was delivering a lecture at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, also infomed students about the reforms that were taken up like lowering of Income Tax and Corporate-tax rates, simplification of filing of returns of income, lowering of rates of indirect taxes/duties, computerisation of operations, presumptive tax scheme for simplification and widening of tax base.
