Prisoner escapes, jail head warder remanded to judicial custody
Rourkela, Feb 4 (UNI) Sundargarh Jail head warder Jagannath Sahu and warder Biswamitra Rout were remanded to judicial custody by Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate yesterday in connection with the escape of inter-state dacoit Sanjaya Bharati from Sundergarh jail on January 6.
Sanjaya Bharati, an under trial prisoner, facing trial in several cases of dacoity and attempt to murder in Orissa and the neighbouring states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhatishgarh, escaped from Sundergarh jail scaling the jail compound wall.
During the incident, Mr Sahu and Mr Rout were on duty inside the jail. Sanjaya Bharati, who was kept in a special cell, escaped from the jail custody cutting the iron rod and scaling the compound wall with the help of a rope.
The escape of the prisoner came to limelight during the morning check-up when the jail staff detected the absence of Sanjaya Bharati in the special cell.
Sundargarh Jail Superintendent Basanta Kumar Ojha then filed the FIR in the police station. The matter was investigated by Inspector General V Tyagarajan, who also suspended two more jail warders, who were on duty that night.
