Media need to prepare future road map : Vice President
Hyderabad, Feb 4 (UNI) Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat today said the media need to prepare its future road map and carve out its role in the changed scenario to expose the wider and more fundamental concerns facing the country.
Inagurating the first national convention of the 'India Media Centre' here, Mr Shekhawat stressed the need to evolve a self imposed code of ethics to report facts and without any bias. Only a credible media report had the potential to win the confidence of the people, he added.
Stating that the media should help in building national consensus in approach of action to meet the formidable challenges faced by the nation, he observed that the media had the capacity to expose the shortcomings in governance and pin-point the areas requiring corrective course of action.
''We need to ensure prompt and effective action in cases of corruption against the high-ups to serve as a deterrent against corrupt tendencies'', Mr Shekhawat added.
On importance of electoral reforms in the country, the Vice President said the reforms were very crucial for improving the governance. Frequent elections had dealt a heavy blow to governance, political expendency and long term national interest, he added.
