Four-year-old Lioness dies at Zoo

Tirupati, Feb 4 (UNI) A four-year-old lioness died due to epilepsy at Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park (SVZP) here today.

The Lioness ''Radha'' was congenitally epileptic, Zoo Curator Parthasarathy told UNI.

She was born in the Zoo in 2002 to ''Karan'' and Lioness ''Paru'', who were rescued from a circus in Maharashtra along with 12 other Lions.

Mr Parthasarathy said all the four cubs born to Karan and Paru were congenitally epileptic, while two cubs died immediately after birth, the fourth was suffering seriously from it.

With Radha's death, the number of Lionesses had come down to 38 in the Zoo.

The carcass of the animal was sent to S V Veterinary University for post-mortem.

Presently, the Zoo houses 69 Lions, two tigers and a leopard, he added.
