Dalai Lama calls for imbibing Buddhist philosophy

Bodhgaya, Feb 4 (UNI) Buddhist spiritual leader and noble laureate Dalai Lama today called upon the people to follow the teachings of Lord Buddha for mitigating the sufferings of mankind.

Jointly inaugurating a three-day international seminar on ''Boddh religion and 21st century'' here, the Dalai Lama said that people should adapt the Buddhist philosophy and try to apply it in their day-to-day life, such exercise would help find solution to several contentious issues confronted by mankind in the materialistic era.

''The Centre and state governments in India had organised several functions which helped in propagating the message of Lord Buddha,'' he said.

Recalling the historical importance of Nalanda University in guiding thousands of students from several parts of the world to acquire knowledge and wisdom in ancient days, the religious leader requested the Bihar government to take initiative for restoring its past glory.

Addressing the seminar, Bihar governor R S Gavai said that people should follow the preachings of Lord Buddha to achieve the cherished goal of attaining universal peace and brotherhood.

Reviving the Nalanda University would be the best tribute to Lord Buddha, he added.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that teachings of Lord Buddha had become more relevant when some countries were trying to create a fear psychosis in different parts of the world on sheer strength of their firearms and ammunition.'' State government has taken steps for restoring the past glory of the Nalanda Uninversity which would become the centre of wisdom in Asia,'' he informed.
