Press Association hails Verghese's inclusion in Prasar Bharati Board

New Delhi, Fab 3 (UNI) Press Association (PA) has congratulated its former President and veteran journalist George Verghese on being nominated by the government as a member of the Prasar Bharati Board.

In a statement here today, PA President Anoop Kumar Bhatnagar recalled Mr Verghese's contributions in reviving the association's activities and stature.

He also thanked the government for recognising Mr Verhese's contributions to the media.

Mr Verghese, who has been working with UNI for the last 35 years, will be on the board for five years. Along with him, Ms Mamata Shankar and Dr Sunil Kapoor were also appointed as members of the board.

The board members are selected by a committee, headed by Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

Prasar Bharati, which controls the vast network of Doordarshan and All India Radio, was created under the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990 to confer autonomy on the public broadcasters.
