Palar issue:AP to share information with TN
Hyderabad, Feb 3 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government will soon share with the Tamil Nadu Government the design of the Palar project as per the assurance given by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to a ministerial delegation from that state, led by Mr M K Stalin.
The proposed project envisaged use of only 600 Mcft to provide drinking water to Kuppam town and surrounding villages and irrigate 4000 acres and not two tmc ft as feared by the Tamil Nadu Government, an official release here said.
As agreed upon during the meeting between the Chief Minister and the delegation in August last, details of the proposed project would be shared with the Tamil Nadu Government very soon.
''The designs of the proposed project are in the stage of finalisation,'' it added.
The Andhra Pradesh Government's proposal had evoked vehement protests from political parties in Tamil Nadu, including the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), part of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre, on the ground that the river basin to a distance of 200 km coursing through Chennai, Kancheepuram and Vellore districts, would be dried up.
