No Cong man quitting: Asom CM
Guwahati, Feb 3 (UNI) Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today dismissed reports of Congress workers quitting the party in the wake of the ULFA threat against them.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Gogoi said, ''No one is leaving the party. We have not received any official communication.'' He, however, expressed concern over the killing of the Congress supporters by ULFA militants in Upper Asom. So far, seven Congress leaders, mostly of the block and panchayat level, have been gunned down in Upper Asom.
Mr Gogoi urged the party workers to be cautious, adding, ''It is not possible to provide security to the thousands of the Congress workers in the state.'' The proscribed ULFA had warned the Congress workers in the state to quit the party by January 26. The militants had targeted the grassroot level leaders till now.
However, there was growing panic among the party workers, especially in Upper Asom where all the killings had taken place, and many Congress members were reported to have quitted the party.
