MRCC convenes newly elected corporators meet tomorrow
Mumbai, Feb 3 (UNI) Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) has convened a meeting of the newly elected 71 corporators at the party office here tomorrow.
Despite its hope of wresting power from the Shiv Sena-BJP combine was dashed in the elections, held on February one, Congress is putting up a brave front and drawing solace from the fact that the party has bettered its tally from 64 in the outgoing house to 71, MRCC sources said.
The sources rubbished reports in a section of the media that city unit president Gurudas Kamat had quit his post owning moral responsibility for the party's debacle.
''We have not suffered a debacle. In fact, our numbers have increased. We have moved ahead and are preparing to work as a strong opposition party,'' sources added.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress president Prabha Rau has left for Delhi to discuss the party's performance in the civic polls to ten municipal corporations, including Brinhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) with the party high command.
