BJP has nothing to do with Nepal agitation: Javadekar
New Delhi, Feb 3 (UNI) The BJP today denied any links with the with the ten-party agitation in the Tarai region of Nepal, dismissing allegations to this effect by Maoist leaders.
''The agitation was being sprearheaded by the Nepalese people associated with various social and political parties to press for various demands and the BJP had nothing to do with it,'' the party spokesman clarified.
He said the fact was that the 40 lakh people living in that region were demanding citizenship, among other things, and the Maoist leaders were scared of this agitation. It was being supported by the Nepal Congress, Rashtrawadi Prajajantra party, Sadbhavana Party, Jantantrik Morcha and Janadhikar Forum.
Maoist leaders, who were trying to hijack democracy in the country, were scared of it as they did not want to deliver justice to the people. They were blaming RSS and BJP to divert the attention of the people, he said, referring to the charge made by Polit bureau member of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) Chandra Prakash Gajurel at a news conference yesterday.
The BJP, he said, always wanted development, good neighbourly relations, democracy and peace in the Himalayan Kingdom.
