2.98 lakh provided employment

Tirupati, Feb 3 (UNI) A sum of Rs 60 crore had been spent against Rs 100 crore sanctioned under the "National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme" (NREGS) and to 2.98 lakh persons were provided employment in Chittoor district, about 70 km from here.

Speaking at a meeting marking the completion of one year of the scheme, District Collector S S Rawat said the Chittoor district occupied the first place among 13 districts in the state for implementation of the programme.

He ordered the officers to spend the balance amount for the benefit of the rural people before the release of the second instalment of Rs 100 crore.
