15 injured in bus-lorry collision

Chennai, Feb 3 (UNI) Fifteen persons were injured and five of them seriously, when a city bus in which they were travelling collided with a speeding sand-lorry at suburb Poonamalee, near here today.

Police said the accident occurred when the bus was proceeding to Vellavedu from Poonmalee and the lorry proceeding to Chennai from Sriperumpudur and the driver of the lorry who lost his control and hit the bus.

Due to the impact, the lorry capsized on the middle of the road, following which the vehicular traffic on the busy Chennai-Bangalore National Highway was affected for about an hour, police said.

The injured were rushed to a private hospital at Poonmalee.

Five of them were referred to Government General Hospital here, police added.
