Ujjain, MP, Feb 2 (UNI) A local court today remanded the banned Students Islamic Movement of India's Madhya Pradesh unit Secretary Mohammad Ikrar Sheikh to police custody until February 5.

Sheikh, who was absconding for six years, was apprehended in this ancient temple town yesterday.

''In 2000, a case was registered at Mahakal Police Station against Sheikh and a dozen SIMI workers for pasting objectionable posters and other offences. Six of the accused were declared absconding. Judicial Magistrate Tanveer Ahmed Khan issued the remand order,'' said Superintendent of Police Jaideep Prasad.

Following the state government's permission, a charge-sheet was submitted in court on January 15. While he was absconding, Sheikh resided in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The police is on the lookout for SIMI Madhya Pradesh chief Kamruddin and four others.
