SC dismisses Shahabuddin bail application
New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dismissed the bail application of controversial RJD MP from Siwan, Mohammad Shahabuddin, in a case of illegal possession of arms and ammunition.
A Bench, comprising Justices S B Sinha and R V Raveendran, dismissed the bail application of the MP from Bihar who is in jail for the last 15 months for possessing illegal arms and ammunition.
Former Patna High Court Chief Justice Nagendra Rao, appearing for the petitioner, contended that all arms found in possession of his client were duly licenced.
Shahabuddin was found in possession of night vision instrument which only army is authorised to keep besides having bullet proof jackets and 1000 live cartridges.
Shahabuddin was earlier directed by the court to place on record, all documents showing that he has got licences for all the arms and ammunition.
There are about 50 criminal cases registered against the controversial MP belonging to the party headed by Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and according to the petitioner he has already been acquitted in 20 cases.
