Roads in state, districts to be made two lane

Chennai, Feb 02 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced conversion of 911 km long single lane state and districts roads into two lane roads at a total cost of Rs 229.51 crores.

As announced in the state assembly that all the single lane roads in the state would be converted into two lane roads, 153 state roads, stretching to 439 km and 130 district roads, stretching to 472 km, would be converted into two lane roads, an official release here said.

Mr Karunanidhi also announced that a bridge across Vellar at Thittakudi town panchayat limit would be constructed at a cost of Rs 3.15 crore, the release said.

The conversion of two lane roads followed government's decision to convert all single lane roads into two lane roads and ensure that there was no single lane roads in the state after three years, the release added.
