Lucknow, Feb 2 (UNI) E-city Ventures today entered Uttar Pradesh by opening its Fun Republic Mall in the state capital.

''The timing of opening of the mall is correct as the people of the city have got the taste of mall culture,'' the company's CEO Atul Goel.

He valued the city's organised retail market to be around Rs 600 crore and claimed the experience of the outlets already functioning at the mall to be good in terms of sale.

Although the mall is operational for the last one month, it was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. The CM stressed the need to have malls to suit the requirements of the lower and middle class.

Dubbed as the biggest mall in the city, Fun Republic would have four cinema screens, besides a food court and a variety of shops, said Mr Goel.

Built over an area of 3.5 lakh sq feet, the mall is the only property in the city to have 14 escalators and seven elevators.

The four cinemas will have a total seating of around 1,200 seats where people can book tickets over telephone and get them delivered at their doorsteps, said Mr Goel.

There are a total of 47 operational screens run by the group. The company has signed 180 screens in 28 cities across India to be operational by the year 2009.

The group spent nearly Rs 85 crore since 2000 to develop the mall in Gomti Nagar area.

E-City plans to develop and operate two million sq feet of retail real estate by 2008, whereas the malls that are operational include cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh.
