BJP activist shot dead by miscreant

Kendrapada, Feb 02 (UNI) BJP activist Yubaraj Mohaptra, a protege of former Minister Bed Praksh Agrawalla, was today shot dead by two miscreants near Chandol while trying to save his younger brother from the wrath of the miscreants.

Police said Yubaraj was killed while trying to rescue his younger brother Debaraj Mohaptra, a contractor from the miscreants, who came from Chandol bazaar to attack the latter.

The BJP activist was rushed to the District Head Quarter Hospital where he succumbed to injury.

Police said Yubaraj Mohaptra was arrested along with Tuku Bal from a lodge at Keshpur Bazar three years back by Kendrapara police for his involvement in call girl racket.

District BJP president Duryodhan Sahu described the murder of Yuvaraj as a political one, while Orissa Gana Parishad MLA Utkal Parida dubbed it as a case of gang war.

Tension prevailed on the Chandol area following the incident and the locals staged road blockade on the Cuttack-Chandabali road, demanding the arrest of the accused involved in the murder case.

Shops and business establishments were closed soon after the incident.

Police deployment had been beefed up in Chandol area and all exits and entry points sealed to nab the culprits.
